Anyone who was at Sunfest in Gimli in the summer of 1993 knew they were part of something special that evening with Pearl Jam headlining. Riding the initial crest of its pop cultural high watermark, the Seattle band was firing on all cylinders while running through many of the songs that would become foundational for the long-running Seattle band.
Setlist
Even Flow, Why Go, Deep, Jeremy, Animal, Glorified G, Daughter/(Gimme Shelter), Go, State of Love and Trust, Garden, Blood, Alive, Black, Once, Porch, Indifference, Sonic Reducer, Rockin’ in the Free World, Baba O'Riley
Recorded on an off-night from its opening slot on Neil Young’s tour, the set would become somewhat well-known with fans after it made the rounds with the bootleg collector community. Most of the concert is available on YouTube. The set highlight for me, both as a teenager at this show in Gimli and now in 2023 is State of Love and Trust from the Singles’ soundtrack. For me, it encapsulates everything the group represents.
